The Science

BREAST & BODY

Fat grafting is emerging as one of the most exciting concepts in breast augmentation to improve size and shape as well as breast reconstruction following surgery or injury.

For breast augmentation, fat is able to naturally enhance both the size and shape of the breasts. Advanced fat grafting techniques have now proven to provide stable long term breast enhancement, and fat grafting is increasingly being considered as a safe alternative to breast implants for many patients. Enhancing fat grafts with Adipose Derived Stem and Regenerative Cells (ADRC’s) has been shown in a number of studies to further improve the stability of fat grafts. Fat grafting is now increasingly being used to improve the shape and symmetry of breasts, to help improve the appearance of breast implants and fix implant problems such as rippling, and in conjunction with procedures such as breast lifts to restore breast volume.

Fat grafting is now an accepted alternative to other methods of breast reconstruction including tissue flaps and implants, and in many cases may be preferable. This is particularly so in patients who have had radiation therapy for their breast cancer. Not only can fat grafting act as a filler to restore the desired volume to the breast, but fat with it’s associated Adipose Derived Regenerative Cells (ADRC’s) has been shown to have a healing effect on tissue damaged by radiation. The effects of radiation can range from increased tissue fibrosis, to pain, to actual breakdown of the skin with non-healing open wounds. Fat and ADRC grafting has been shown to be beneficial for all of these problems
